- No prior AI tool experience is required
SQL Advance Curriculum: 3 Advanced Parts
Three parts cover performance and engineering, advanced joins and set logic, and analytics/BI/data-engineering patterns.
Learn how to understand what the database is doing, improve query efficiency and structure complex SQL more cleanly.
- Indexes β search shortcuts for faster lookups
- Execution plans β table scans vs. index seeks
- Query refactoring for readability
- Partitioning β range, list and hash
- Materialized views
- Multi-step queries with chained CTEs
- Capstone 1: Query Performance Audit
Compare datasets, identify gaps, find overlaps, generate combinations and apply pattern-based or dynamic filters.
- FULL JOIN with NULL logic
- CROSS JOIN β every combination
- INTERSECT β what overlaps
- EXCEPT β what is missing
- REGEXP β pattern-based text filtering
- Dynamic subquery filtering
- Capstone 2: Data Gap & Overlap Analysis
Apply advanced analytical patterns for ranking, row-level summaries, recursive logic and BI reporting.
- Window functions β COUNT, ROW_NUMBER and RANK OVER
- CTEs and recursive CTEs
- SQL's logical execution order
- CASE-based conditional logic
- Conditional aggregation for BI reports
- Capstone 3: Executive BI Dashboard Report
3 Hands-On SQL Advance Capstone Projects
Each course part ends with one applied project, giving learners exactly three advanced SQL capstones across the course.
1Part 1
Query Performance Audit
Take slow, poorly structured queries and improve them by reading execution plans, selecting appropriate indexes and refactoring the SQL.
- Execution plans
- Indexing strategy
- Query refactoring
2Part 2
Data Gap & Overlap Analysis
Compare related datasets to identify missing records, overlapping records and inconsistencies using advanced joins, set operators and dynamic filtering.
- FULL JOIN with NULL logic
- INTERSECT & EXCEPT
- Dynamic subquery filtering
3Part 3
Executive BI Dashboard Report
Build a multi-metric analytical report using window functions, CTE logic, CASE expressions and conditional aggregation for BI-ready output.
- Window functions
- Recursive CTEs
- Conditional aggregation

Here is a representative Part 2 example showing how advanced join logic identifies records that are missing from one side of a relationship.
Part 2 Β· FULL JOIN Logic and Missing Records
A FULL JOIN keeps matched and unmatched rows from both sides. NULL values reveal where a corresponding row is missing. MySQL does not provide a native FULL OUTER JOIN keyword, so a full-outer result is commonly emulated with combinations of LEFT/RIGHT JOIN and UNION when needed.
Analytical question
Question: Which records appear on one side of a comparison but not the other?
SELECT ...
FROM table_a a
LEFT JOIN table_b b ON a.id=b.id
UNION
SELECT ...
FROM table_a a
RIGHT JOIN table_b b ON a.id=b.id
WHERE a.id IS NULL;
The advanced skill is understanding which rows must be preserved, what counts as a match and how NULL values expose gaps.
